9/16/14 walk through the city
Walking through Soho on a Sunday afternoon, I realized how different my surroundings were from my neighborhood, in the Bronx. I took the D train on Fordham Rode all the way to Lafayette. The further the train went downtown the more drastic the cultural changes were. In the Bronx, the sidewalks are filled with "mom and pop" shops, many deli's, and fast food restaurants such as McDonald and Pizza shops. When I got out of the train on Lafayette, I immediately see big franchised name brand stores such as Hollister Co., Adidas, Victoria Secret, H&M and so on. The people around me seemed to be dressed in a very fashionable manor wearing high fashion designers. Their outfits seemed very appropriate for the environment. One lady was wearing a D&G bag over her tan Burberry trench coat, with Michael Kors boots and gold watch. Her outfit seemed very appropriate for the environment. To eat, there was places like Chipotle and Baked by Melissa cupcakes. The cars that rode the streets were very expensive, cars like Mercedes- Benz and I saw many Camaros. In my neighborhood, the most frequent cars I encounter are Honda Accords and Honda Civics. These differences in the my surroundings made me wonder what made these differences, were they culturally constructed or did they occur on their own?

I've never been to Soho but it seems that there's plenty of shopping to do there which means you have just inspired me to take a trip to the city. From what you're describing, I would say that the differences in the Soho area are culturally constructed. Big stores like that probably attract people with money looking to spend.
soho is a very diverse place and one can get lost with the amount of stores bunched up together. Not to far away is china street and each section looks different from the other. Your description is spot on.
